American Ice Theatre (AIT) creates site‑specific, interdisciplinary performances and educational experiences at the intersection of ice skating, dance, and theatrical storytelling.
Our work uses expressive movement to bring people together — supporting health, freedom, and community connection through performance, participation, and shared experience. Whether outdoors in public space or indoors on a rink, AIT meets communities where they are.

Bring the Ice to Your Community | AIT brings contemporary skating beyond traditional venues and into places where people live, gather, and move together.
We design performances that can adapt to many environments — indoors or outdoors, on real ice or synthetic surfaces — transforming skating into an expressive, joyful, and participatory art form.
This is not recreational skating in circles.

Ice & Venue Options
AIT offers flexible production models so presenters can choose what works best for their space, climate, and community.
Real Ice Options
- Local indoor ice rinks (municipal, university, or private partnerships): we can partner with all of them & provide the ice for you;
- Temporary outdoor ice installations that we bring in and set up;
- Outdoor seasonal rinks developed in collaboration with cities or presenting partners (these might already exist in your area!)
Synthetic *Plastic* Ice Options (we provide the plastic ice)
- Indoors or outdoors
- Flexible sizes with the portable puzzle pieces of plastic ice
- Available year‑round
- Ideal for plazas, campuses, galleries, and non‑traditional performance spaces
*Ice skate rentals are not included and must be coordinated separately.

Performance Options
- Length: 15 minutes to 60 minutes
- Cast size: 3 to 12 skaters depending on the show
- Format: Single performance, multiple short sets, or repeated shows throughout a day or event
AIT offers a repertoire of works that can be programmed as‑is or combined to create a custom experience. Performances can be scaled for intimate settings or larger public gatherings, depending on space and audience size.

Our contemporary ice skating experience can be tailored to suit your needs, offering a streamlined option featuring 4-6 professional skating artists. This experience includes a “Learn to Contemporary Skate” class, designed to inspire communities and audiences to actively participate in contemporary skating themselves and finishes with an open skate jam, where audiences are encouraged to explore contemporary skating in an immersive and welcoming environment.
By blending performance with community involvement and arts education, we aim to create an unforgettable event that brings people together, celebrates self-expression, and offers a deeper appreciation for the art of skating. Pricing at $8,000, excluding travel and accommodations for performers, venue ice rental, and skate rentals for participants. **Optional: Indoor or Outdoor REAL ICE Surface Rental
- If you’re interested in a real ice surface, AIT can partner with a local indoor ice rink or a portable ice rink company to arrange real ice for the cost of $4,000. (This would be in lieu of the plastic ice costs).
- If your city or venue already has an ice surface or can easily partner with a local ice rink, there is no additional cost for this requirement.
Additional Requirements
- Transportation: Local ground transportation required & travel to location for 4-6 performers & 1 manager required.
- Accommodations: Secure, clean accommodations for 4-6 performers & 1 manager.
Technical Requirements
- Load In/Out: American Ice Theatre can do the load in/out of plastic ice in 2 hours before and after the experience. The venue can have other programming before and/or after this event with minimal interruption.
- Lighting & Sound: A sound system; lighting dependent on the site-specific location.

Step into the ethereal ice realm of re:member, a contemporary skating performance that combines breathtaking artistry with hands-on engagement. This unique experience doesn’t end with the final bow—audiences are invited to join an open skate jam & class, learning how to glide and move like the performers themselves.
Performed by professional contemporary skating artists from across the United States, this innovative show fuses contemporary dance with figure skating. Skaters harness the element of glide, 3-dimensional full-body movement, spins, tricks, and innovative uses of toepicks, blades, and ice to push the boundaries of traditional skating.

Optional: Ice Surface Rental

- If your venue already has an ice surface, there is no additional cost for this requirement.

To ensure the success of re:member, the following must be arranged by the presenter:
- Transportation: Local ground transportation required.
- Accommodations: Secure, clean accommodations for 10 performers & 1 manager.
Technical & Venue Requirements
- Load In/Out: American Ice Theatre can do the load in/out in 1 hour on both sides of the experience. The venue can have other programming before and/or after this event with minimal interruption.
- Rehearsal Ice:
- Minimum of 3 hours of rehearsal time on the performance surface, freshly resurfaced before use.
- Minimum of 2 hours of access to the venue prior to rehearsals for technical setup.
- NOTE: these rehearsal times are included already if American Ice Theatre sources the ice rental.
- Dressing Rooms: Minimum of 1 clean dressing room with rubber matting and accessible bathrooms.
- Lighting & Sound: A high-quality sound system and the capability to adjust house lighting fully down for dramatic effect.
