Master Choreography Techniques (MCT) is an advanced online certification and training program for both seasoned skating coaches and those looking to specialize in a career as an ice choreographer. Created by AIT Founder Jodi Porter, the class is a mixture of choreographic creation, video lecture, reading and monthly discussion meetings. AIT Co-Executive Directors Garrett Kling & Kate McSwain lead the semester class.

At the end of the semester, each student creates a final capstone project incorporating the choreographic elements of time, space, energy and form.

Maddison works in LA as an actress and film producer. She is the creator and producer of “Ice The Movie.” She teaches an “Acting for the Ice” clinic focusing on interpretation, improv and overcoming stage fright. She took MCT to “learn the ‘how’ of choreography” and said, “I want to challenge what I know already and develop new ways to approach choreography.”

Annacaye Clark

Annacaye is a resident of Northwest Arkansas. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, majoring in Communication with a Theater minor.

She danced professionally in Branson, MO before moving back to Arkansas to kickstart her career in coaching. She has her PSA Certified Choreography Rating and took this course to prepare for her final two ratings. She “hopes to bring new and exciting ideas of movement to our part of the country.”

Tara Lorenz

Tara is a recent graduate from the University of MN Duluth, with a bachelor’s degree in Music and Psychology. She has been coaching for the past 5 years in Duluth and this past year has focused more on her choreography career. Tara is also a company member of AIT Minneapolis-St. Paul. She took the course to “gain a deeper understanding of movement and be inspired to learn new things.” Tara is also planning on getting her PSA choreography ratings.

Elizabeth Misson

Elizabeth is a choreographer, ice dancer, free skater and LTS program director. She is a resident of Ohio and is excited about the prospects of diving more into the realms of ice theatre and ensemble choreography. With 20 plus years of experience in choreography, Elizabeth is always looking at ways to grow her skill set and has used the course to “heighten my understanding of movement and thinking outside of the box.” Elizabeth is also a multi-media producer for the Cleveland Clinic News.

Jessica Pentz

Jessica competed nationally In Ice Dance and is currently coaching in Beaver, Pennsylvania. She received her degree in Early Childhood Education. She said she decided to take MCT to “gain a better understanding and knowledge of choreography so that I can compose more artistic and challenging programs for my skaters.”

Katie Spurgeon

Katie is a resident of Madison, WI, teaches 2nd grade, and directs the Children’s Theatre of Madison in the summer. She is a competitive skater and coaches/choreographs in her hometown. She believes “the ice is a powerful forum for storytelling, connection and self-expression” and as a choreographer aims to develop that connection with the ice and audience catálogo. She is very interested in diving more into the contemporary skating realm and plans to participate more with AIT.
