6 Ways of the Spine™ is AIT’s core body movement philosophy, and this advanced, online AIT certification and college-level training course for figure skating coaches and choreographers as well as professional figure skaters. It offers comprehensive training in 3-dimensional movement exercises and cutting-edge teaching tools for expanded expertise in the field. With this certification, coaches & skaters will improve their teaching methods for skating skills combined with core body movement.

At the end of the semester, each student creates a final capstone project incorporating full body movement and showcases a teaching video of all 6 ways of the spine.

Get to know the graduates, their background and hear their thoughts about the course:

Kelly Annese

Kelly is a figure skating coach, USFS gold medalist in skating skills and freestyle, and AIT Boston Professional Company member 2021-2024.

“The 6 Ways of the Spine course developed my understanding of how to teach, execute, and explore full body movement. Learning how anatomy, dance, and skating technique comes together has strengthened my understanding of the 6 Ways of the Spine. This has provided me with an array of tools to use in my coaching as well as my own practice of contemporary movement.”

Maé-Bérénice Méité

Maé is a two-time Olympian, European & World Competitor, and six-time French National Champion.

The 6 Ways of the Spine™ is a must do, for every athletes and coaches, as it gives us a thorough understanding of body composition, performance and optimization. It was made with the heart and desire to bring us a valuable everyday tool, and I could feel it all throughout the course. It is very intense but graduating from this online curriculum was the last missing piece of a discovery journey I embarked on in 2018, and dove really into after my ruptured Achilles tendon back in 2021. I was able to cross reference my personal research, with my lived experience, to gain valuable insights and key tools that I carry very preciously as I am working on coming back to competing. It also gave me the confidence I was missing to share my knowledge with other athletes, to hopefully help them reach their highest level of performance by shaping the most optimized body through the 6 Ways. Enlightening. Very thorough & complete. 110% recommend.

Rebecca Cacioppo

Gabriella Dignitti

Gabriella is a coach, choreographer, UX Designer, and USFS Quadruple Gold Medalist.

“6 Ways of the Spine opened my eyes to all of the ways we can move on the ice and how I can help my skaters achieve more body awareness and range of motion through proper cueing.”

Nora Klein

Nora is a movement artist, choreographer, and full-time skating coach based in Chicago, IL.

“My biggest takeaway was having the structure to practice and develop my own methods for teaching each way of the spine. I appreciated getting feedback from my classmates to refine my pedagogy. ”
